Everyone has dreams, whether we follow them or not is our choice. I had the chance to sit down with Marissa Kay Klein, author, SVP and one Fit Fab Mommy who not only follows her dreams, but also makes them come true for others. She is the author and creative mind behind the children’s book The Dream Big Academy Rosie Wants to be a Fireman. Marissa is such a passionate person. She was so excited and proud to discuss her first published book, her inspirations and what’s to come next.
For the past 8 years, Marissa has managed Choice Fashion/Media, the creative division of her family’s boutique staffing firm. In this position she coaches, supports and helps people find their dream jobs in NYC. So it only seems fitting that she wrote a book that discusses the endless possibilities of what we can be when we grow up. Marissa said that she wanted to be a writer since she was a little girl. When she was a child her sister, Jamie, didn’t know what their dad did for a living or where he went every day so she told her teacher that her dad was a fireman, while she didn’t know what he actually did she knew he helped people. So when Marissa’s own daughter asked her what she did Marissa thought it would be appropriate to write a book to explain to her daughter where she goes everyday. Memorial Day weekend of 2011, when her flight was delayed from Chicago, Marissa sat down and wrote about Rosie wanting to be a fireman (a tribute to her sister and dad) and The Dream Big Academy was born.
Rosie Wants to be a Fireman is about a 4-year-old girl who is full of life and has endless aspirations. Each night when she goes to sleep she can be anything she wants to be. Tonight she is a fireman, tomorrow who knows! It’s inspirational and educational for children as young as two years old and as old as seven or eight. My daughter loves it! This book is very relatable as it goes through nightly rituals and routines that most families experience. It allows parents to explain to children about careers, where they go everyday and lets them know that they too can be whatever they want to be when they grow up.
Marissa is a busy mom of two beautiful girls, a wife and a successful career woman and she still finds time in her busy schedule to stay fit. Her activity of choice is spin at Soul Cycle. Marissa plans on making a series out of The Dream Big Academy with each title featuring a different girl or boy with different dreams. Marissa wrote the second book while on vacation in Puerto Rico and it will be coming out soon. I know I can’t wait to get it because the career of choice is something close to my heart! Rosie Wants to be a Fireman is a must-have for every family. You can purchase your copy at Amazon.
